How It Happened
-St. Edward's didn't waste any time, as it put up five runs in the first inning.
TAYLOR JOHNSON led off with a single.
CUTTER RUNTE followed with another single. Each would move up a base on a wild pitch and
RANSOM LALONDE singled them both home. After a single by
CJ MANNING and
DYLAN WATTS reached on an error to score LaLonde,
JOE PIROZZOLO singled home two more runs to make it 5-0.
-
TAYLOR JOHNSON got things started again in the second inning when he led off with a double. He would eventually score on a passed ball.
-The Dustdevils got two runs back in the bottom of the second when Fernando Garza tripled home two runs.
-The Hilltoppers responded with a run in the fourth inning. Johnson was at it again as he reached on bunt single with one out. He moved to second on a single by Runte, and would score on a single by
CJ MANNING to make the score 7-2.
-The Dustdevils tried to chip away at the lead as they pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 7-3.
-Johnson made it 9-3 in the fifth inning when his double drove in two.
-The Hilltoppers would hold off the Dustdevils down the stretch, only giving up one more run for the final margin.
Beyond the Box Score
-The seven-game winning streak is the highest this season, and most since last season when the Hilltoppers had an eight-game winning streak.
