Hilltoppers split on road against Newman

Game 1
How It Happened
-St. Edward's did all of its scoring in game one during the first two innings. In the first inning, TAYLOR JOHNSON led off with a double and CUTTER RUNTE drove him in with a double of his own. WES KOENIG and JOE PIROZZOLO also drove in a run with matching singles. In the second inning, Johnson reached on a one-out error. Runte drove in his second run of the game with a triple to the gap in right field.
-Hilltopper starting pitcher BRANNON EASTERLING had it working early, allowing just one run on two hits in the first four innings.
-Newman would try and rally down the stretch, scoring a run in the fifth and sixth innings to cut the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the seventh, the Jets would score a run and would have the tying run on third base. Easterling got the Jet's leading hitter Ruben Marrero to ground out and preserve the victory.
-Easterling allowed four runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out four in the complete-game victory.
 
Game 2
How It Happened
-St. Edward's would score first again in game two. In the second inning, DYLAN WATTS launched a two-out home run to left field for his second round-tripper of the season.
-Newman would take the lead in the third inning when they pushed across two runs.
-The Hilltoppers rallied in the seventh inning, scoring four runs off of just one hit. Johnson had the big blow, clearing the bases with a three-run double to the gap in left field. RANSOM LALONDE drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly. The Hilltoppers missed out on adding to their lead, stranding two runners on base in the inning.
-The Jets answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4.
-In the bottom of the ninth, the home team rallied once again. Christian Dye singled home two runs with two outs to give the Jets the win and a split on the day.
-COLLIN SHERROD, starting his first game in a weekend series and was fantastic. The freshman allowed two runs on just four hits, while walking three and striking out four before leaving with the lead after six innings of work.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-Both Johnson and Koenig had hits in both games, increasing their hitting streaks to four games. Johnson has now reached base in eight-straight games.
-With his two stolen bases in game two, Johnson leads the Heartland Conference, swiping 20-of-22 bases this year.
