Game 1
How It Happened
-Hilltopper starting pitcher
BRANNON EASTERLING was absolutely outstanding as he pitched his eighth complete game of the season. The junior righthander allowed just two hits while striking out two in 7.0 innings of work. It was his second shutout of the season. He also lowered his earned-run average to 2.31.
-St. Edward's got started offensively in the first inning when they put two runs on the board.
NATE BOBROWSKI came up with the big hit, scoring two on his one-out single.
-The Hilltoppers added two runs in the fourth inning when
JOE PIROZZOLO brought home a run on a sacrifice fly and
TAYLOR JOHNSON singled in a run.
-Two more runs for the home team in the fifth inning, pushed the Hilltopper lead to 6-0.
RANSOM LALONDE led off the inning with his first home run of the season and
WES KOENIG doubled in a run.
-St. Edward's capped off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning when LaLonde drove in his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly.
-Easterling got the last out of the game in the seventh when he barehanded a comebacker and threw out the runner to end it.
Game 2
How It Happened
-The second game saw the War Hawks finally get on the board and jump out to a quick 2-0 lead after two innings.
-McMurry starting pitcher Chase Moreland had it working early, striking out six in the first 3.2 innings of work. With two outs in the fourth inning,
CJ MANNING reached on a hit by pitch and
NATE BOBROWSKI walked. Koenig drove a 3-1 pitch down the right field line that scored both runners and tied the game.
-That is the way it would stay until the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out,
CUTTER RUNTE reached on a walk. LaLonde doubled and sent Runte to third base. Runte would score on a balk by Moreland and LaLonde crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
-
MATT DAVIS picked up the win in relief, as he didn't allow a run on two hits in 3.0 innings of work.
Beyond the Box Score
-The three hits in game two were the lowest offensive output for St. Edward's this season. The amazing thing is that the Hilltoppers still won the game.
