How It Happened
-St. Edward's got on the board in the first inning when CUTTER RUNTE reached on a one-out single. He advanced to second on a balk by the Lion pitcher. CJ MANNING would drive in Runte for the first run of the day.
-UA Fort Smith would fight back with six runs on six hits in the top of the third inning.
-The Hilltoppers got back in the game with three runs in the bottom of that inning. St. Edward's got RBI's from MARSHALL BURFORD, DYLAN WATTS and JOE PIROZZOLO to cut the lead to 6-4.
-The Lions kept the offensive pressure on the Hilltoppers, pushing across five runs in the top of the fourth, opening up an 11-4 lead.
-That is when things started to turn around for St. Edward's. TAYLOR JOHNSON led off the bottom of the fourth with a double. Runte followed with a walk and both moved up a station with a stolen base. Both would come in to score and the Hilltoppers ended up tacking on a total of five runs to cut the Lion lead to 11-9.
-After both teams traded runs in the bottom of the fifth and the top of sixth, St. Edward's took a 14-12 lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
-BRAD NASIS came on to pitch in the seventh. The lefthander allowed just one hit and one walk in his first 2.2 innings of work. UA Fort Smith rallied with two outs as Ryan Gros delivered a big two-out, two-run double to tie the game, 14-14.
-The Hilltoppers had one last rally in them in the bottom of the ninth. NATE BOBROWSKI led off the inning with a single. After moving to second, two Lion errors loaded the bases. A wild pitch by UA Fort Smith brought Bobrowski home from third with the winning run.

-The 17 hits were tied for second most on the season.
-St. Edward's won their first game in the Heartland Conference for the first time since 2010.

St. Edward's will be back in action Friday at 3:30 p.m. when they take on St. Mary's in the winner's bracket final.
