CARY, N.C. – Fourth-ranked St. Edward's dropped a 10-3 decision to #1 Tampa Tuesday evening in the second round of the 2013 NCAA DII College World Series at the USA Baseball National Training Facility. The loss sends them into the loser's bracket versus Grand Canyon Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST.

Tampa (45-11) opened the scoring in the second inning when Sean O'Brien reached on a hit by pitch as a leadoff hitter. After a strikeout by Hilltopper starting pitcher BRAD NASIS, Jake Schrader hit his second home run of the tournament for a 2-0 Spartan lead.

St. Edward's (43-17) tried to answer in the bottom of the second inning when C.J. Manning led off with a single to center field. The Hilltoppers would leave him stranded at first after three consecutive flyouts.

Tampa tacked two more onto its lead in the fourth inning, scoring both with two outs. Adam Pendleton had an RBI-double and Jacob Tillotson added an RBI-single.

The Spartans pushed a run across in the fifth inning to bring the score to 5-0, but with the bases loaded, the Hilltoppers turned an inning-ending double play.

Tampa would add two unearned runs in the sixth inning and single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

In the eighth inning, St. Edward's would get the first two runners on base. JOE PIROZZOLO led off with a single up the middle and A.J. Hermanson followed with a hit-by-pitch. Pinch-hitter KEVIN MAYO was next up and his comebacker hit off of the Tampa pitcher. Mayo was thrown out at first, but both runners moved up a base. Pinch-hitter BEAU ROGERS stepped to the plate and laced a single right back up the middle to plate both runs.

In the bottom of the ninth, NATE BOBROWSKI led off with a single and advanced to second on a defensive indifference. Pinch-hitter WES KOENIG knocked Bobrowski in with a single to right field to make 10-3. But that is how the game ended.

The Hilltoppers finished with eight hits as a team, with Bobrowski collecting three of them.

The Spartans only had 11 hits for their 10 runs but seven walks and four hit batters did the Hilltoppers in.

St. Edward's will face Grand Canyon for the second time this tournament. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday at the USA Baseball National Training Facility. Grand Canyon defeated Coker College, 10-2, in an elimination game. St. Edward's defeated the Lopes in their opening game of the series, 1-0.
