How It Happened
-St. Edward's got on the board first in the third inning when RANSOM LALONDE singled home TAYLOR JOHNSON with the first run of the game. The rally started with two outs, when Johnson singled to third base. CUTTER RUNTE followed with a walk and that brought LaLonde to the plate.
-The Hilltoppers would add two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run triple by JOE PIROZZOLO.
-After LaLonde drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, St. Edward's pushed across three runs in the eighth inning on RBI's by RYAN DOLEZAL, LaLonde and CJ MANNING.
-The pitching staff was outstanding on Saturday, with PAUL SMITH making the start and allowing no runs on just two hits in 4.0 innings of action. COLLIN SHERROD, allowed just three hits during the next 3.2 innings. The only blemish came in the eighth inning when Dustdevil catcher Alex McKeon one hopped the wall in left field. The ball got trapped under the fence screen and Runte held up his hands for a ground-rule double, but the field umpire didn't see it that way. McKeon kept running and rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-The win clinched the number two seed for St. Edward's heading into the Heartland Conference Tournament. It came down to a tiebreaker with UA Fort Smith and the Hilltoppers. The two teams split their season series, 3-3. They also both went 2-4 against conference leader St. Mary's. Finally in their record versus TAMU-International, UA Fort Smith went 4-2, while St. Edward's went 5-1. Below are the matchups without the game times for next week's tourney:

Up Next
St. Edward's will be back in action Thursday when they take part in the Heartland Conference Tournament. They will take on UA Fort Smith in the first round of action. No game time is set yet but the tournament will take place at the University of the Incarnate Word and run through Saturday. Check the Hilltopper website for game times for the tourney.
