Box Score ODESSA, Texas – The 15
th-ranked St. Edward's baseball team battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat UT-Permian Basin, 12-3, in the rubber match of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Roden Field.
UT-Permian Basin (9-10, 1-2 HC) got off to a good start as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
JOHN ALEXANDER finally got St. Edward's rolling in the fourth inning when he drove in a run, while also scoring himself on a two-run single by
AJ HERMANSON. St. Edward's would add four more runs in the fifth inning to make the score 7-2.
The Hilltopper offense would put the game out of reach in the ninth inning when they exploded for five runs.
MILES WRIGHT had the big hit for St. Edward's with his bases-clearing three-run double.
The Hilltopper bullpen also deserves a lot of credit for the win, as three pitches combined to allow only one run on just three hits after the first inning.
CAM HATCH (1-0) picked up his first victory as a Hilltopper, tossing five innings of relief, allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out two.
KYLE SEITHEL tallied three scoreless innings and
IAN JONES tossed a hitless ninth.
Alexander led the Hilltopper offense with three hits.
WES KOENIG had started the season on a 14-game hitting streak. After two hitless games Friday, the senior tallied two hits and three runs scored on Saturday.
St. Edward's will be back in action Thursday for a make-up game with UH-Victoria. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
