Box Score LAREDO, Texas – The 11
th-ranked St. Edward's baseball team pounded out 17 hits and turned three double plays en route to a 14-1 win over Texas A&M-International Saturday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field. The victory was the seventh-straight for the Hilltoppers and kept them in a tie for first place with rival St. Mary's at 10-5 in the conference.
For the third-straight game, St. Edward's (23-9, 10-5 HC) scored in the first inning.
WES KOENIG drove in the first run of the game with a double down the left field line.
DYLAN WATTS and
KEVIN MAYO both produced RBI-groundouts to make it 3-0 after the first half inning.
The Hilltoppers added two more runs in the third inning to make it 5-0. Chris Killen drove in one of his three RBIs on a sacrifice fly.
St. Edward's tallied two more runs in the fifth inning on a two-RBI double by Koenig. Gabel Whitacre singled home another run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 8-0.
The floodgates would open in the ninth inning as St. Edward's registered six runs to put the game out of reach. Killen singled home two runs, while
MILES WRIGHT,
MIKE DAVIS and
RYAN DOLEZAL also picked up RBIs.
DALTON BROWN (5-0) picked up the victory, allowing just three hits, while striking out four batters in six shutout innings. He lowered his season ERA to 1.54.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to take on Houston-Victoria. First-pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Riverside Park. Live stats will be available on the Jaguar Athletic Website.
