Box Score AUSTIN, TEXAS – The #7-ranked St. Edward's baseball team lost in a pitcher's duel to #19 Texas A&M-Kingsville, 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
TAMU-Kingsville (30-14) struck twice in the first inning off of Hilltopper starting pitcher
DALTON BROWN. Taylor Taska had an RBI-double to score the first run of the game, while Matt Perez singled in the second run of the inning.
St. Edward's (31-12) got a run back in the bottom of the first inning when the Hilltoppers loaded the bases with nobody out.
CUTTER RUNTE and
GABLE WHITACRE both walked to start the inning, while
WES KOENIG singled to follow. A double play would score one run, but the opportunity was wasted as St. Edward's trailed, 2-1.
The Javelinas added to their run total, with a solo run by Taska in the fifth inning to make it, 3-1. That is where it would stay, as each team was only able to muster seven hits.
Brown (7-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking six and striking out two batters in 4.1 innings of work.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action this weekend as they host Rogers State for a three-game series. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 1:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
