AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's baseball split its doubleheader with Colorado School of Mines Saturday (2-7, 13-1) thanks to STUART SPRINGER's complete game in game two.
 
Springer pitched seven innings of three-hit, one-run baseball as St. Edward's clinched the series in game two of the day with the Orediggers. GABLE WHITACRE crushed it at the plate going 4-for-7 on the day with four RBI and one run on a home run and a triple. WILLIAM HAIRSTON and TJ GISELBACH also homered for the Hilltoppers.
 
St. Edward's (7-4) won the weekend series against Mines, 3-1. The Orediggers fall to 4-3 after starting the season 3-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One (Mines 7-2)
W – Ekstrom (1-0), L – Infante (1-1), S – Martin (1)
 

• Mines scored one run in the second inning and two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
• Hairston homered in the bottom of the third to make it 3-2.
• The Orediggers finished strong with a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to clinch the win.

 
Game Two (St. Edward's 13-1)
W – Springer (2-0), L – Marting (0-1)
 

• St. Edward's did all of its work in the second inning.
• Whitacre hit his second home run of the season to start it off and hit a triple to close out a seven-run barrage.
• Mines grabbed a run in the top of the fifth.
• Giselbach capped a six-run sixth inning with a grand slam and Springer struck out the top of the seventh to close out the win.

 
 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Hairston has reached base in all 11 games this season as the leadoff hitter.
• Whitacre is riding a nine-game hitting streak.
• Head Coach Rob Penders is eight wins away from 400 career wins.
