AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's baseball came from behind Sunday to defeat Missouri S&T, 13-6, winning the overall series, three games to one.
 
ROMEO CORTINA and GABLE WHITACRE hit home runs in their second straight game to fuel the victory. Cortina finished the day, 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Whitacre went 2-for-5, scoring once and driving in three. HUNTER COURSON also came up big with two runs and two RBI on three doubles, tying the program record for doubles in a single game.
 
On the mound, JOEL MILLER earned the first win of his Hilltopper career. The freshman pitched three innings of three-hit, shutout relief with one strikeout.
 
St. Edward's (11-5) has scored in 75 straight games, dating back to May 15, 2015. Missouri S&T (2-5) drops its second straight series of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• An error by St. Edward's in the first inning spotted Missouri S&T an early 2-0 lead.
• The Miners extended their lead to 5-0 with one run in the second inning and two in the fourth.
• Courson put SEU on the board in the bottom of the fourth frame with a RBI double.
• In the fifth inning, Cortina hit a bases-loaded double to make it 5-3.
• Whitacre completed the comeback with a three-run home run to give the Hilltoppers a 6-5 lead.
• St. Edward's finished out the fifth frame with seven runs on nine hits.
• Cortina added another run in the seventh with a leadoff home run.
• Four runs in the eighth frame capped the scoring.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• The Hilltoppers are 7-2 all time against Missouri S&T.
• Whitacre's home run extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
• Head Coach Rob Penders is four wins away from 400 career victories.
• DANIEL SABATINO made the first start of his career at third base and went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
