DURANT, Okla. –
St. Edward's softball scored five unanswered runs Sunday to defeat Eastern New Mexico, 5-2, and finish with a 3-3 record at the Southeastern Regional Invitational. The Hilltoppers dropped a 14-1 decision to East Central earlier in the day.
St. Edward's won its first two games of the tournament before dropping three straight. The Hilltoppers won their tournament finale and will take that momentum into next weekend's tournament in Utah.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1-East Central)
- Through the first four innings of action, St. Edward's held tight with East Central, 3-1.
- With the help of four Hilltopper errors, the Tigers exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2-Eastern New Mexico)
- Eastern New Mexico got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first inning.
- The Greyhounds pushed across another run in the fifth inning to make it 2-0.
- St. Edward's responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- Sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY doubled home two runs while sophomores SHELBI ROOHMS and JINNY STRICKLIN each knocked in a run.
- Freshman KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ provided an insurance run in the sixth inning with her first home run as a Hilltopper.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Senior ASHLEE REX picked up a save in the victory over Eastern New Mexico and adds that to her 1-0 record in the circle.
- The Hilltoppers trail 4-3 in the all-time series with East Central but take an 11-3 advantage in the series against Eastern New Mexico.
