THE RUNDOWN

FORT SMITH, Ark. – After UAFS swept St. Edward's in a doubleheader Friday, the Hilltoppers got revenge with an 11-2 win Saturday in game one of a doubleheader. But, the Lions took the series with a walk-off victory in game two, winning 8-7 to take three of four Heartland Conference games at Crowder Field over the weekend.

UAFS' (20-8, 6-2 HC) Logan Allen hit a two-run double with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, which proved to be the series sealer in the final game. Four lead changes occurred in the contest that saw each team put up a four spot.

WILLIAM HAIRSTON highlighted a four-run top of the fifth with a two-run double for SEU. The Hilltoppers (15-14, 3-5 HC) eventually built a 6-3 lead, but in the bottom of the sixth, the Lions struck back with four of their own to take a 7-6 advantage, keyed by a two-run single from Dion Williams. SEU's ZACH SCHINDLER helped the Hilltoppers regain the lead breaking a 7-7 tie with an RBI double in the top of the eighth. However, UAFS loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth before Allen's big hit.

In game one, TANNER LAWSON (5-2) struck out eight in five innings of work while DEREK RAMOS and TJ GISELBACH drove in a pair of runs each to lead the Hilltoppers' offensive attack. SEU built a 7-0 lead before the Lions scored their only two runs of the game in the fifth to cut the lead to five. However, the Hilltoppers nailed the door shut to any further UAFS rally with four runs in the top of the sixth with Giselbach's two-run triple highlighting the surge.
