THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After dropping the first game this series, St. Edward's baseball (20-17, 8-8) takes three straight from St. Mary's (25-13, 9-8), including the highly anticipated doubleheader sweep Saturday to win the Heartland Conference series 3-1. The Hilltoppers won game one 10-4 and followed with a marathon 21-11 win over the Rattlers in game two at Dickson Stadium. With the win, SEU takes five of the eight games played between the rivals and is now 93-153-1 in the all-time series. In this particular set the Hilltoppers outscored the Rattlers 44-36, and 41-23 in the final three games.

BLAKE HOLUB and
DYLAN MAY led the team with four hits on the day and each drove in three runs, however,
ZACH SCHINDLER brought home six runs with just one hit, and
TJ GISELBACH had five RBIs with two hits.
BLAKE ALEXANDER paced the team with six runs scored and Holub followed with five.

The Hilltoppers built a 6-1 lead through three innings that was capped with a three-run dinger from Schindler in the third. The Rattlers immediately got those three runs back in the fourth, but a two RBI double in the fifth from May and a pair of RBI walks in the sixth ballooned SEU's lead to six and ultimately the final score, 10-4.
TANNER LAWSON (7-2) picked up his tenth career win in a Hilltopper uniform after fanning three in five frames.
JAKE DAVIS made his second appearance in the series with one strikeout in the final two innings.

A tough, long, and drawn out game two led to a combined 17 runs by the third inning and the Hilltoppers would finish with 21 runs themselves – their highest total since scoring 23 in eight innings at Lubbock Christian last season (April 7, 2017). The Hilltoppers held a 12-7 lead in the third, but the Rattlers went on to score at least one run in the next three stanzas to trim the lead to 12-11. In the top of the seventh,
BLAKE ALEXANDER came home due to a Rattlers' fielding error, and SEU tacked on four runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to put the game away, 21-11.

TRENT ROSENAUER (1-0) made his first appearance on the bump for the Hilltoppers throwing 3.1 innings and
JUAN CORTINA recorded his fifth career save after four innings of wok with five strikeouts.
EVAN TUBBS got the start and
JOSIAH CHUPIK also saw time in the game. Between the six STMU pitchers, they totaled just two strikeouts and gave out 17 free passes. Â Â

Head Coach Rob Penders on the DH sweep and series win…
"We'll take the sweep and the series win anyway that we can get them on the road. This is not the way we would've drawn it up, but at the end of the season all that matters is how many you have in the win column versus the loss column. We were able to beat a very god St. Mary's team at home where they only loss one game all year. That is not easy to do."
