THE RUNDOWN
OKLAHOMA CITY – The St. Edward's baseball team (22-17, 10-8) turned in its second consecutive doubleheader sweep and starts a critical four-game series with a 2-0 lead after shutting out Oklahoma Christian (19-20, 8-10) 8-0 in game one, and then took game two, 5-3 Thursday at Dobson Baseball Field.
BLAKE HOLUB threw his first career shutout in his first career complete game in game one, and
TJ GISELBACH recorded five ribbies on just two hits as he recorded the only homer of the day for the Hilltoppers.
Â
Blake Anderson and
DYLAN MACKIN each tallied a team-high of four hits on the day, although Alexander scored three runs and drove in a late run in game two.
WILLIAM HAIRSTON finished with three hits while five other batters registered two hits, including Holub and Giselbach.
Â
The Hilltoppers switched up the rotation this series by starting Holub on the bump and it paid off as he threw a three-hit shutout to improve to 4-3 on the year. Holub also had an impressive day at the plate, hitting a two-run double to put SEU ahead, 3-0 in the fifth frame. St. Edward's blew the game open in the seventh with five runs highlighted by two-run singles from Giselbach and
MATTHEW JIMENEZ en route to the 8-0 win.
Â
SEU kept things rolling early in game two as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead highlighted by Giselbach's three-run shot in the first inning. The Eagles scored their first run of the day early in the sixth before Kolton Brown hit a two-run shot of his own to trim the SEU lead, 4-3. However, the Hilltoppers crossed an insurance run in the top of the ninth win Alexander's squeeze brought home
TROY ANDERSON who led the inning off with a double.
JAKE DAVIS then finished his work by closing the Eagles out with two punch-outs in the bottom half to pick up his fourth save on the year.
TRENT ROSENAUER (2-0) was credited the win with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings and Davis totaled three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
