THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas –
BLAKE HOLUB tossed his second consecutive shutout and homered Friday, while TJ GISELBACH continues to torch pitchers as the St. Edward's baseball team (25-18, 13-9) wins its eight game in its last nine outings by sweeping Lubbock Christian (28-16, 13-9), 8-0, and 12-6 at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

After fighting for a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament, the Hilltoppers enters Saturday's doubleheader tied for second in the league as they continue to play quality baseball. Giselbach lit up the Chaps arms with seven RBIs behind two dingers including his first career grand slam, and MATTHEW JIMENEZ had a breakout day in the batter's box, batting 5-for-7, scoring two runs and driving in four. On the bump, Holub gave up only four hits in his second career shutout and JAKE DAVIS claimed his fifth save this season after throwing four innings in game two.

Holub (5-3) tallied his third complete game this season with a four-hit shutout where he sat down seven and handed out four walks. The Hilltoppers took game one from the Chaps 8-0 thanks to a five-run fifth inning that featured a controversial grand slam courtesy of Giselbach. With two outs and the bases juiced, Giselbach stepped to the plate and sent one over the left field walled that hooked foul after making its exit. Jimenez drove in the final run of the game in that same inning as the Hilltoppers cruised to victory.

Faced with two outs in the first inning of game two, Holub belted his second home run of the season with a two-run shot, and Jimenez hit a double to left field to plate the next two runs. However, LCU stormed back with five runs on three hits in the next half inning, highlighted by Scotland Church's three-run homer to tie the game at four. A fielding error assisted Andrew Pratt for the go-ahead run as the Chaps went into the bottom half with a 5-4 lead. Their lead was short lived though after the Hilltoppers provided more two-out magic with Giselbach's second bomb of the day - this time a three-run shot in the second. Although the Chaps got one run back in the third, DEREK RAMOS' single brought home two and SEU entered the fourth with a 9-6 cushion. St. Edward's pushed three more runs across home plate in the sixth and went on to win 12-6. CHRIS LOGAN (1-1) picked up his first career win on the rubber after striking out three in 3.1 innings. Davis claimed his fifth save on the year, punching out three in four frames, and starter TRENT ROSENAUER received no decision after 1.2 innings.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Rob Penders on what has clicked over the last few weeks …
"Our pitchers are throwing better and our bats have really come around these last few weeks. It's been encouraging the way we have been playing and we've talked all year how we needed to get some doubleheader sweeps and we just weren't doing it, but now we are much more consistent in our play and that's why we are getting them done."

Penders on how pleasing it is to sweep a doubleheader at home for the first time this season…
"It's great. It allows us to come to the ballpark tomorrow free and easy and relaxed knowing that you've got two underneath you already. Winning the series just take one more and to sweep it takes two which is going to be very difficult against a good team like they [Lubbock Christian] are, but I'll rather be in this position than we split like we normally have been."

Penders on mindset to win and/or sweep the series…
"It's just what we've been doing. You know we've been winning series and although we haven't swept one yet and that's the next goal for us to do it, but just coming to the ballpark and being ready to go and having our pitching throw well for us and Tanner [Lawson] has done that all year for us so we don't doubt him and then it's just a matter of putting everything together again offensively. They have two good pitchers going tomorrow so it won't be easy but it never is."
