THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – With Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Lubbock Christian, the St. Edward's baseball team is surging with 10 Heartland Conference wins in its last 11 contests. The Hilltoppers (27-18, 15-9) took 4-0 and 9-0 wins over The Chaps (28-18, 13-11) in games one and two, respectively at Lucian-Hamilton Field after sweeping a doubleheader Friday.

TANNER LAWSON struck out eight, didn't walk a hitter and scattered six hits in SEU's game-one shutout, giving the junior lefty his third shutout of the season and ninth win of the year on the mound. Offensively,
BLAKE HOLUB's RBI single gave the Hilltoppers the early lead in the bottom of the first, 1-0, before SEU took advantage of a bases-loaded situation in the fifth.
BLAKE ALEXANDER brought home a run when he was hit by a pitch and
TJ GISELBACH's infield single scored another run to make the score 3-0.

The Hilltoppers would add another run in the bottom of the sixth and Lawson set down 12 of the last 13 LCU hitters he faced to seal the 4-0 victory.

BLAKE ALEXANDER's grand slam in the bottom of the second inning of game two was the second slam of the series for the Hilltoppers and highlighted a six-run second. Couple that with
JUAN CORTINA's career-high 11 strikeouts in eight innings of work, and SEU cruised to take all four wins over Lubbock Christian.

With one series to play vs. Texas A&M International at home next weekend, the Hilltoppers are tied with St. Mary's (15-9) for second place and a game back from UAFS (16-8).

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
•
BLAKE ALEXANDER hit grand slam in the bottom of the second to highlight a six-run second inning; he finished with four RBIs for the game giving him six games this season with at least two and 16 multi-RBI games for his career.
•
TJ GISELBACH's hitting streak increased to 10 games with an RBI single in the fifth inning.
•
TANNER LAWSON tossed his third shutout of the season, scattered six hits, didn't walk a batter, struck out eight and picked up his ninth win of the season.

DEREK RAMOS was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI; it marked his 10
th game of the season (11
th of his career) to have multiple hits.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
•
JUAN CORTINA struck out a career-high 11 batters and passed 100-career strikeouts in a Hilltoppers uniform in the process; Cortina has 108 strikeouts after Saturday's outing.
• Cortina combined with
JACOB MCROBERTS for a shutout; the third combined shutout of Cortina's career.
•
WILLIAM HAIRSTON was walked four times, which is one off the single-game school record in game one Saturday.
• Hairston finished 1-for-1 at the plate with three runs scored, hit his seventh home run of the season with a solo shot in the sixth inning and stole a base.
•
DEREK RAMOS' two-run double in the eighth gave him two RBIs for the game and it marked the fifth time this season he's driven in two runs or more.
•
DYLAN MACKIN hit 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored, he has seven games on the season with multiple hits and extended his hitting streak to seven games.
