THE RUNDOWN
CANYON, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball team came up short Thursday at Wilder Park as it dropped the first game of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament to No. 21 Colorado School of Mines, 11-3.
BLAKE ALEXANDER and
WILLIAM HAIRSTON finished 2-for-4 at the plate, while
DEREK RAMOS and
ZACH SCHINDLER both drove in one run with one hit on the day in the losing effort.

Jace Selsor led Mines with five RBIs on two hits, including his three-run shot in the fourth inning that ended with six Orediggers runs.
TANNER LAWSON (11-3) was charged with the loss after punching out eight batters in six innings.

After trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, SEU scored on a balk and Ramos drove home Hairston on an RBI groundout. However, Mines quickly answered with six runs on three hits in the fourth to regain the lead 7-2, and proceeded to create distance with a two more runs in the sixth, and a run in both the seventh and ninth for an 11-2 advantage. Schindler knocked in a run with a single to centerfield in the bottom of the ninth, but the Hilltoppers were unable to overcome the deficit.
