KINGSVILLE, Texas – RANSOM LALONDE recorded four hits and four RBI to lead the Hilltoppers over the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa in extra innings, 6-5. St. Edward's improved to 2-0 in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament and has now won six straight games dating back to the regular season.

The two teams combined for three hits through the first two innings, until the Hilltoppers found the scoreboard in the third inning. TAYLOR JOHNSON and CUTTER RUNTE both reached base by being walked. Johnson reached third after LaLonde grounded out to the Mavericks short stop. Johnson scored the first run of the game after the Mavericks committed a throwing error.

St. Edward's added another run in the fourth inning to increase their lead, 2-0. MARSHALL BURFORD was able to reach base on a fielding error committed by the Mavericks third baseman. Burford advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by DYLAN WATTS. JOE PIROZZOLO tripled to right center that allowed Burford to cross home.

Colorado Mesa responded with a big fourth inning. They would score all five of their runs during the inning and take the lead, 5-2. The Mavericks had the perfect opportunity to blow the game wide open during the fifth inning as the bases were loaded with no outs.  BRAD NASIS was able to get out of the jam by striking out three consecutive batters. The score remained 5-2 going into the sixth inning.

The Hilltoppers were able to muster one run during the seventh inning, and that trimmed the lead, 5-3. KEVIN MAYO reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a CUTTER RUNTE single. Mayo was able to score when LaLonde had a single through the left side of the field.

St. Edward's was down by two runs going into the ninth inning.  RYAN DOLEZAL got to first base after a hit by pitch. Mayo singled to left field that advanced Dolezal to second. Both Dolezal and Mayo stole bases, and the Hilltoppers had two runners in scoring position. LaLonde delivered two more RBI for the game with a single down the left field line. St. Edward's tied the game, 5-5.

The Hilltoppers had runners on first and second to start the 10th inning, but they couldn't convert any runs. Instead, KEVIN MAYO started the 11th inning being hit by a pitch. Mayo advanced to scoring position after Runte laid down the sacrifice bunt. LaLonde converted the big hit once again with a double down the left field line. Mayo scored on the play to give St. Edward's the lead, 6-5.

The Mavericks were able to get one person on base in the 11th inning, but MATT DAVIS didn't allow any serious threat. Both batters he faced flied out. AJ RATAIC stepped in to face the final batter. Erik Kozel of Colorado Mesa was out at second base and the game was complete. The Hilltoppers scored three unanswered runs for the 6-5 victory over #2 Colorado Mesa.

“This team has really fought any adversity that we have faced, especially over the past several weeks”, St. Edward's head coach Rob Penders said after the game. “This win is a great accomplishment, but at the same time we are far from where we want to be,” Penders concluded.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action today to face the winner of Texas A&M-Kingsville vs. Colorado Mesa. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 7 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville. Live video and stats will be available through the Javelina Athletic Website.
