AUSTIN, Texas. – ZACHERY SCHINDLER hit the first home run of his St. Edward's career Saturday, but it was not enough as St. Edward's baseball fell to Northeastern State, 10-8 in extra innings.
 
Schindler finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. WILLIAM HAIRSTON produced four hits in six at-bats and scored three runs with two RBI. On the mound, BALLARD INFANTE lasted 5.1 innings, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts.
 
St. Edward's (1-2) drops its first regular season series since April of last season. Northeastern State improves to 2-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• St. Edward's dominated the first six innings behind the pitching of Infante, taking a 7-2 lead into the seventh.
• Northeastern State grabbed one run back in the seventh and two in the eighth to make it 7-5.
• GABLE WHITACRE provided an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI-double, scoring Hairston.
• The RiverHawks used back-to-back walks in the ninth to score three runs and force extra innings.
• In the extra frame, Northeastern State hit a home run and drew another walk to score two and clinch the win.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• St. Edward's falls behind 3-2 in the all-time series with Northeastern State.
• The Hilltoppers have started two of their last three seasons with a 1-2 record.
• In its first three games St. Edward's is averaging just over four runs and 10 hits per game.
• Schindler is now batting .500 with six hits in 12 at-bats.
