AUSTIN, Texas – SHIMEEK JOHNSON led all scorers with 30 points as St. Edward's fell to Oklahoma Christian, 87-85 in double-overtime Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma Christian (9-6) got on the board first with a jumper by Will Reinke.
CHRIS WACKER would respond with a jumper of his own to tie the game at two apiece.
St. Edward's (11-8) took a three-point lead with a free throw by
FRANKIE MGBOLU and
SHIMEEK JOHNSON lay-up with 15:43 remaining in the first half. The Eagles responded with a 7-2 run over the next two minutes of action to regain the lead 9-7 at the 13:54 mark.
QUINTON LILLEY drilled a shot from downtown to give the Hilltoppers the 11-9 lead with just under 12-minutes remaining. Johnson knocked in two free throws and
ZILIJAN JONES would connect with a shot from beyond the arc to give St. Edward's a 16-11 lead at the halfway point of the half.
Jones and Johnson knocked down multiple treys to extend the Hilltopper lead to thirteen with just over four minutes remaining. Oklahoma Christian closed out the half with an 11-5 run. St. Edward's went into the break with a 35-28 lead.
The Eagles picked up right where they left off scoring five-straight points during the first three minutes of the second period. The Hilltoppers led at that point, 35-33.
HARLEY NUSSMAN and Mgbolu responded with two shots to increase the St. Edward's lead, 39-33. Both teams would trade baskets over the next six minutes of play.
QUINTON LILLEY and Johnson connected on consecutive buckets to maintain the St. Edward's lead at 49-41 with 11 minutes remaining.
The Hilltoppers saw their lead evaporate to 57-56 with six minutes remaining in regulation. Johnson scored five-straight points to put St. Edward's back up by six points.
The Eagles again cut the Hilltopper lead to one point, 66-65 with just two minutes remaining. Johnson connected on both free throw attempts, as did Nick Tate of Oklahoma Christian.
With just 11 seconds remaining in regulation,
JEFF CAMPBELL missed his first free throw but connected on his second for a two-point cushion, 69-67. Kendre Talley would score a layup with three seconds remaining to tie the game at 69 and send the game into overtime.

ZILIJAN JONES swished a trey to give the Hilltoppers its first lead in the overtime period, 74-73.
CHRIS WACKER extended the lead to three points with two foul shots. Kendre Talley connected on a three-point play to give the Eagles the 78-76 lead with 28 seconds remaining. Johnson was able to get to the rim and get fouled. He made both his foul shots sending the game into its second overtime period.
Reinke scored four-straight points for an 82-78 Eagle lead, but
SHIMEEK JOHNSON quickly responded with a shot from downtown to cut into the deficit. Brandon Troutman answered to a three-point shot to again give Oklahoma Christian the four-point lead. Johnson again nailed a shot from beyond the arc. The Hilltoppers trailed 85-84 with just 1:11 remaining.
Derek Johnson made one of two free throw shots to give the Eagles a 86-84 lead.
ZILIJAN JONES had a chance to tie the game from the charity stripe but was unable to convert. The Hilltoppers had one last chance down 87-85, but
CONNER KJER couldn't connect on his desperation three-point attempt.

Andre Cook commented after the game, “Obviously losing in double overtime is hard to swallow. I was very proud of our guys throughout the game; especially with how hard they played. There are a lot of positives to take from this. Credit Oklahoma Christian in playing two tough overtime road games this week.”
