LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior
JACOB VASQUEZ hit his first home run of the year Thursday, but it was not enough as St. Edward's baseball dropped its doubleheader to Lubbock Christian, 11-7, 11-6.
Vasquez finished his day 3-for-8 with four RBI and one run with a double and a home run.
WILLIAM HAIRSTON went 5-for-8 with three runs on five singles and a walk.
GABLE WHITACRE finished with three hits, including three runs and a RBI.
On the mound,
RYAN HILL was perfect in relief with no earned runs on six hits while striking out six.
BRANDON BOONE and
STUART SPRINGER registered their second and first losses of the season, respectively.
St. Edward's (21-14, 8-6 Heartland) is ranked fifth in the conference standings. Lubbock Christian (26-9, 9-2 Heartland) extends its lead in the league race, ranked first in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One (Lubbock Christian 11, St. Edward's 7)

- Lubbock Christian opened the scoring in the first inning with a RBI-single.
- St. Edward's used an LCU error to make it 1-1 on a Cortina sacrifice fly in the top of the third frame.
- The Chaps offense exploded for three runs in the fourth inning, six runs in the fifth, and another run in the sixth.
- SEU rallied with six runs over the last three innings, but it would not be enough.
Game Two (Lubbock Christian 11, St. Edward's 6)
W – Crooks (4-1) L – Springer (6-1) S – Hooper (6)
- Lubbock Christian jumped ahead, 8-0, with single runs in the second and third innings, and six runs in the fourth.
- BLAKE ALEXANDER tripled in the sixth frame to help SEU score three runs, making it 8-3.
- Vasquez's first home run of the year came in the top of the eighth frame to pull the Hilltoppers within two runs, 8-6.
- A three-run bottom of the eighth for Lubbock Christian put the game out of reach.
