St. Edward's Athletics Hall of Fame
Popp graduated from St. Edward’s in 1957. He lettered four years in basketball, playing center and forward. During his senior year he was voted Most Valuable Player and during his junior year he was selected second-team all-conference. He also ran track for three years. Al was president of the Indiana Club, class officer, a member of the Commerce Form Club, president of the Letterman Club, member of the Iato Latin Club and a candidate for Man of the Year. Popp worked for E.I. Dupont, was a member of the parish council for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and a committeeman in city politics. He is now retired and lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife, Doris, and their son, Kevin.
