Tom Hamilton was the baseball coach at St. Edward’s University and then became athletic director for 12 years. Before coming to St. Edward’s in 1961, “Hammy” was an All-American first baseman and basketball player at the University of Texas. He briefly played professional baseball and managed two minor league baseball teams. He coached Big State Conference-winning baseball teams in 1969, 1971 and 1972, was twice named Conference Coach of the Year and was  named NAIA District Coach of the Year. Hamilton was instrumental in developing the on-campus baseball field, which is named in his honor.
