St. Edward's Athletics Hall of Fame
In 1901, at the age 25, Billy Disch came to St. Edward’s University as a physical education instructor and coach. Beginning with the 1901 season, the St. Edward’s University baseball team gained respect and became known for its consistency in beating cross-town rival, the University of Texas. In 1911, Disch left St. Edward’s to become the baseball coach at UT–Austin. He had a long, distinguished career, and was known as “the grand old man of Texas baseball.” Disch won an incredible 21 of 26 championships at UT–Austin by the time he retired in 1940. Disch-Falk Field at UT–Austin is named in his honor, along with coach Bibb Falk. Disch was a charter member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1966 and the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
