St. Edward's Athletics Hall of Fame
Brother Edmund Hunt came to St. Edward’s University in the fall of 1946 after having taught at Notre Dame for 10 years. During his presidency, there was a great expansion of the curriculum, the physical plant and the athletic program, including the building of a gymnasium. The end of World War II brought an influx of students, and Brother Hunt was key in developing the athletic program. He was also instrumental in starting the Big State Conference and the scholarship program. In 1952, Brother Hunt went to Rome, where he was on the staff of the Notre Dame International School for Boys. He returned to St. Edward’s University in 1954 as head of the Humanities Department and, in 1956, became the secretary of the Southwest Province of Holy Cross. In 1966, Brother Hunt traveled to Rome to work for the General Administration of the Congregation, and he returned to teach at Notre Dame in 1968. He taught English, art history and French at St. Edward’s University from 1976 to 1983 and served on the board of trustees.
