St. Edward's Athletics Hall of Fame
Brother Walter Foken, CSC, was both teacher and athletic director at St. Edward’s from 1946 to 1957 and was affectionately known as Brother “Dean” by the students. In addition to teaching a full semester of classes and being athletic director, Brother Foken was prefect of the Holy Cross annex. During his tenure, St. Edward’s won conference in tennis and joined the newly formed National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Brother Foken helped develop the private school league and built an intramural sporting program in which 85% of the student body participated.
