Bob Hilliard was a four-year letterman in tennis from 1976 to1980.  A Summa Cum Laude graduate, Hilliard was voted the Most Improved Player for 1976–1977, and won the Emmett Strohmeyer Most Valuable Player award in 1978–1979 and 1979–1980. He won the Ed Norris Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year Award for 1979–1980 and played on the 1980 NAIA Academic All-American tennis team. In 1980, Hilliard played on the UTSA Professional Tennis Circuit. After graduation he was  ranked No. 1 in Texas Men’s Doubles and No. 16 in Men’s Singles in 1983–1984. In 1982–1983, he was the San Antonio City Tennis Champion. He was the 6 time Corpus Christi City Men’s Tennis Champion in singles 1984–1989. In 1993 he achieved a USTA National Ranking of 10 in the country in Men’s 35 Singles.  In 1999 he achieved a USTA National Ranking of 4 in the country in Men’s 40 Doubles.
