DeNell Davis, a 1987 graduate with a BBA in Finance, was a four-time basketball letterman and holds the second all-time leading scorer (2,254) and third all-time rebounder (1,083) titles. Davis blew onto the court as a freshman forward during the 1982–1983 season and was named second-team All Big State Conference. During his sophomore year, Davis set a single season scoring record with 599 points and led in rebounds, with 7.7 boards per game. After a year’s break, Davis returned to the team as a junior postman in 1985–1986 and led the Hilltoppers to their first outright Big State conference title in over 20 years — losing only two conference games. On the way, he earned All-District IV and NAIA District IV Player of the Year honors. As a senior, he led the team in a trio of individual single game highs: most field goals (14), most free throws (10) and most rebounds (20). Those stats and his superior schoolwork garnered Davis the honor of being named Academic All-American and NAIA Third Team All American.
