St. Edward's University Athletics

John Meagher played football under Knute Rockne at Notre Dame before coming to St. Edward’s where he coached football and baseball and attended as a graduate student from 1923 to 1927. From 1923-1925, SEU lost only three football games under Meagher’s guidance. After leaving SEU, Meagher coached at Rice and at Auburn, where he retired. The 1925 yearbook describes Meagher as a “maker of men” and continues to say that he “inspired respect, confidence and devotion” from all who worked under him. John Meagher passed away December 7, 1968.
