St. Edward's Athletics Hall of Fame
“Moose” Woeber was captain of both the football and basketball teams in 1923 and coached at SEU a year after graduating in 1925. He was vice president of his senior class and won the Athletic Scholarship medal in 1923. The yearbook of 1925 remembers Moose: “In Moose are combined all the qualities that are found in that hero of song and story, the perfect college athlete.” Also, “To him, more than to any other one player is due the glory which has come to St. Edward’s in the field of athletic endeavor.” And finally, “He is almost ideal, for he is that rarest of jewels, an athlete who never cuts class, never fails to shine in his studies, and never made trouble for those who have to deal with him. In short, he is not only a man, but also a gentleman and a scholar. Who could wish for more?” Moose Woeber died Jan. 30, 1983.
